Here at EASE, we’ve developed a fantastic team of skilled individuals over the years, allowing us to deliver expert service to every job. Each member of EASE offers their own unique strengths and expertise, benefiting every project we work on.

It’s time to introduce you to Avinash, one of our trainee site engineers, in our fifth post of the Meet The EASE Team series. Learn more about Avinash, his role, and what he enjoys most about site engineering.

Tell us a little about yourself

I am Avinash. I am from India and came to the UK in 2023 to pursue my Master’s in Construction Project Management from Anglia Ruskin University. Before that, I did a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering in India.

I love to cook food, watch movies, listen to music and spend time with family and friends.

What is your role title and what do you do?

I am working as a trainee site engineer with EASE. This is my first job in the UK after completing my master’s. My work includes doing as-built surveys, setting out, quality control and soil management. These tasks are essential to maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards on-site.

How long have you worked as a site engineer? If you’ve worked other roles in the industry, what were they?

Before coming to the UK, I worked as a site engineer in India for more than 3 years. I have experience of handling major infrastructure projects costing more than £100 million.

What made you want to pursue this career?

During my childhood, I was very curious about dams, bridges and other big structures. I used to wonder how someone could make these big structures. That’s when I decided to pursue a career in construction.

What do you enjoy about your job?

The thing I enjoy most about my job is that it always helps you keep growing your skills. Even when the process is the same, the efforts behind completing them are very different. You have to face a lot of challenges every time you start something new. This keeps us engaged with work and helps in developing new skills with the use of technology.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

My favourite thing about my job is meeting new people. As we all know, the construction industry is diverse and you meet a lot of people during your journey. The relationships I build and the experiences I gain along the way make this career incredibly fulfilling.

Do any challenges come with your job?

Yes, there are a lot of challenges that come with our job. Construction is a dynamic industry where unexpected situations arise frequently. Weather conditions, material delays, design changes, and coordination between multiple teams can sometimes make things difficult. Managing deadlines while maintaining quality and safety standards is also challenging. However, overcoming these obstacles makes the job more exciting and rewarding.

Do you have any favourite moments or projects from your time as a site engineer?

One of my favourite moments as a site engineer was working on a major infrastructure project in India, valued at over £100 million. Seeing such a large-scale project come to life and being a part of it gave me immense satisfaction. In the UK, my first project with EASE has also been memorable, as it has given me the opportunity to apply my skills in a new environment while learning advanced construction techniques.

What would you say to someone considering a site engineering role?

If you enjoy working on challenging projects, problem-solving, and seeing tangible results from your work, then site engineering is a great career choice. It is a field that constantly evolves with new technologies, so there is always something to learn.

The job can be demanding at times, but the experience of building something meaningful and working with diverse teams makes it very rewarding. If you have a passion for construction, attention to detail, and a willingness to adapt to different situations, you will definitely enjoy this role.
