Southend-on-Sea

Over the past year and a half, the team at E.A.S.E have contributed their extensive Site Engineering knowledge, experience, and services to ensure a major project in Southend-on-Sea reached completion safely and efficiently.

Key points about the project

  • 8-month project.
  • A collapse of the incoming shaft resulted in flooding.
  • Diversion of primary incoming flow by installing a 12.5-meter diameter pumping shaft 24 meters deep.
  • Installation of a new 10,000-litre fuel tank, generator and MCC unit.
  • Close collaboration by supplying the design team with site information and 3D as-built visualisations.
  • Working in challenging conditions with a non-stop flow of sewage.

A Project with High Stakes

The project proved to be a significant engineering challenge with heightened stakes due to the collapse of an incoming shaft, resulting in flooding, which meant the situation was critical.

In response, E.A.S.E Engineers assisted @One Alliance, using their innovative thinking, expertise, and persistent commitment to deliver the desired remedy before further escalation of the issue.

Solution

Due to the severity of the situation, our team of Site Engineers worked closely with the design team by supplying them with site information and state-of-the-art 3D as-built visualisations. A large part of the project was to install a new 12.5m diameter pumping shaft, 24 meters deep.

But that wasn’t all… the team also installed:

  • A new 10,000-litre fuel tank
  • A large generator
  • An MCC (Motor Control Centre) which combined with the generator and fuel tank, controls the motors of the pumps.
  • Above and below-ground pipework
  • Draw pits and cable ducts
  • New footpaths and roads

Closing Statement

The Southend-on-Sea project serves as an inspiration to all of us faced with seemingly impossible challenges. It was thanks to the dedication, expertise, and perseverance of the whole site team, whom our Engineers were lucky enough to work alongside, who helped the project achieve completion.

E.A.S.E. is proud to have been a part of this project and is committed to providing high-quality Site Engineering services to our clients.
